Man Fatally Struck in Escondido on I-15 Freeway 

39-year-old Delfino Gonzalez was hit and killed by a drunk driver in Escondido on Sunday.

The tragic accident occurred on the I-15 Freeway around 4 in the morning on September 18th.

Gonzalez was traveling in a vehicle with his cousin when they ran out of gas. He exited the vehicle to walk to the gas station nearby the exit when a Lexus struck him. 

Sadly, the man died at the scene.

The involved driver stayed at the scene following the crash; however, it was determined he was impaired at the time of the accident.

According to NHTSA, more than a quarter (25%) of accident-related deaths are linked to the use of alcohol. With that being said, according to the CDC, there are 30 people that are killed everyday in a car accident as a result of an alcohol-impaired driver. That is equivalent to one death every 50 minutes.
