One Killed in Highway 99 Crash
A rear-end collision claimed the life of one person in Galt on Thursday morning.
It was reported that a minivan slammed into the back of a semi-truck that was parked on the northbound shoulder of Highway 99.
The accident took place just before noon on May 19th in Sacramento County.
As a result, about three quarters of the van ended up underneath the truck which resulted in a fire.
The driver of the semi attempted to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher.
Sadly, one person was killed. It is unclear if others suffered injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
According to the NHTSA, nearly 2.5 million rear-end collisions are reported each year in the U.S. More specifically, they are responsible for 28% of all crashes.
In addition, rear-end collisions account for 950,000 injuries and 2,000 deaths each year.
These types of crashes are often the result of distracted and reckless driving.
