A head-on collision resulted in the death of one person in Riverside on Friday morning.

The deadly crash occurred just before 6 a.m. on January 28th at the intersection of Cajalco Road and Barton Street.

Per CHP, a Dodge Durango and another vehicle collided head-on under unclear circumstances.

As a result, both vehicles blocked both the eastbound and westbound lanes of the intersection.

Unfortunately, one person became trapped inside the car and died at the scene.

It is unknown at this time if others suffered injuries from the crash.

Further details will be provided once an investigation is concluded.

Head-on collisions are without a doubt the most dangerous types of crashes. They may only account for 2% of accidents, however they make up 10% of all deadly crashes.

The Fatal Analysis Reporting System (FARS) has found that:

  • 75% of head-on crashes happen in rural areas
  • They are most common on two-lane highways
  • Failure in negotiating a curve on the road causes 23% of all fatal head-on collisions
  • 58% of head-on collisions result in a fatality

If your injuries are caused by the negligence of a third party you may be entitled to compensation. In the event of a death, families may be entitled to wrongful death benefits.

It is also important to remember that in the state of California a person involved in a car accident who has sustained injuries has to file a claim within two years of the accident.
