VacavilleIn Crash on Interstate 80

the early hours of Thursday, August 12th, a collision claimed the life of one unidentified person.

The crash was reported at about 4:55 a.m. on the Interstate 80 Freeway near the split with Interstate 505.

According to CHP, a driver was crossing over multiple lanes when they collided with three other vehicles.

One person was ejected from a vehicle and wound up in another lane. This person was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name and age has yet to be made known to the public.

The cars involved were a 2019 Honda Ionic, Volkswagen Golf, Chevrolet pickup truck, a white sedan and a blue Honda Civic. Per police, the Volkswagen sustained major front-end damage and the Honda had moderate front-end damage.

The crash left a substantial amount of debris on the eastbound lanes. All vehicles were also removed by tow trucks.

Traffic was diverted and lanes were shut down by authorities at about 5:10 a.m. The freeway was reopened about 2 hours later.

Investigators are seeking to determine liability.

Since 2014, according to the NHTSA, over 10,000 people have died in multi-vehicle collisions. Additionally, the drivers are most often the ones killed. A little more than 7,000 of those deaths were operators of their vehicle. Approximately one third of crashes each year are multi-vehicle crashes.

When more cars are involved in a collision, the likelihood of someone being seriously or fatally injured increases.
