Darnell Bluitt Killed in Long Beach Hit-and-Run

A hit-and-run crash killed Darnell Bluitt, 54, at Artesia Boulevard and Butler Avenue in Long Beach.

The accident began when Darnell Bluitt and another man were pushing a disabled 1993 Acura sedan westbound on Artesia Boulevard in Long Beach.

A 2010 GMC truck approached the area and hit them from behind. The vehicle struck them at Butler Avenue near the 710 Freeway overpass at about 3:45 a.m.

Long Beach police said Darnell Bluitt died as a result of the crash.

The 43-year-old Compton woman steering the Acura at the time ended up hurt upon impact. Paramedics took her to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Meanwhile, police affirmed that the male driver of the GMC did not stop to render aid and fled to a nearby neighborhood. Officers later located the truck.

Authorities soon arrested and booked the motorist for suspicion of DUI, hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. They set his bail at $100,000.
