Child Dies, 4 Hurt in Two-Car Crash near Seventh Street and Thomas Road

A child was killed, and several others injured in a two-vehicle collision that took place Tuesday morning near an intersection in Phoenix, police reported.

The wreck occurred just after 9 a.m. near Seventh Street and Thomas Road.

Phoenix police said a car was heading eastbound when it swerved to avoid hitting another car but ended up in the opposing traffic lanes where it collided with a westbound vehicle.

The male driver and two children in the westbound car were taken to the hospital, where one of the kids died from their injuries. The man and the other child are expected to survive.

A child in the eastbound vehicle was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and a woman in the same car suffered injuries not considered serious.

Police are investigating to establish if speed and impairment played a role in the accident.
