Deadly Crash Injures Woman on Shafter Avenue and Burbank Street

A DUI crash resulted in the death of an infant and left 6 people injured in Buttonwillow Saturday, July 23rd.

Irving Rodriguez-Barraza, 22, was driving eastbound in a Dodge Ram when he failed to stop for a stop sign.

As a result, his vehicle crashed with a northbound Jeep Cherokee on Shafter Avenue.

This caused the Jeep to crash into a tree, resulting in it overturning.

In addition, the Dodge collided with a stop sign at the intersection.

Joanne Figueroa, 34, was the passenger in the Jeep and she sustained undisclosed injuries.

All occupants of the Jeep were transported to Kern Medical for treatment. Sadly, the 1-year-old who was in the Jeep died at the hospital.

Rodriguez-Barraza and his passenger were also treated for injuries at Kern Medical. Barraza was also arrested on DUI charges.

The crash remains under investigation.
