Bruce Velthoen Killed in Knights Ferry Bike Crash on Highway 120

The bicyclist who was hit and killed by a vehicle on Friday morning near Knights Ferry has been identified as Bruce Velthoen, 67, of Modesto, according to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s-Coroner’s Office.

The wreck took place on Highway 120, west of Tulloch Dam Road at about 10:40 a.m. November 25.

CHP said Velthoen was riding a bike along eastbound Highway 120 when he made turned left from the shoulder into the highway.

A 2005 Subaru was traveling in the slow lane and tried to move to the right to avoid the bicyclist but the rider also swerved to the right and was hit by the Subaru.

According to the report, Velthoen was pronounced deceased at the site of the accident.

The driver of the Subaru, Leanda Lopez, 22, of Oakdale, was not hurt and stayed at the scene.

Authorities are conducting an investigation into the crash.
