Big Rig Crash in Fresno County
A teen driver, Ernesto Garin, died as the result of a big rig collision that took place on Thursday evening.
Garin was a 17-year-old who played football at Washington Union School.
The crash occurred at about 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of Walnut and Jefferson Avenue.
According to reports, a northbound big rig ran a red light, thus colliding with Garin’s westbound pickup truck.
Following the impact, the pickup truck ended up under the big rig’s trailer.
Garin was trapped underneath which led to emergency personnel extricating him. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The big rig driver stopped and cooperated with authorities. He was also uninjured and is unidentified at this time.
Statistics from 2019 show that 846 people were killed in crashes that involved running a red light and about 143,000 people were injured.
