Arlen Brown Killed in Crash In Portsmouth
A man died Wednesday night on Interstate 95 after crossing over the median in a Ford Escape and striking another vehicle head-on, seriously injuring a woman driver, according to New Hampshire State Police. It was the second fatal crash and third serious accident involving a vehicle crossing the median on I-95 in the Seacoast this month.
Arlen Brown, 68, of Sabattus, Maine, was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital and pronounced deceased. He was the driver of the Escape. Jessica Emerson, 25, of Berwick, Maine, who was driving a Toyota Camry, was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
“The preliminary investigation determined a vehicle traveling southbound crossed the median, went airborne, and struck another vehicle traveling northbound,” police posted on social media.
State Police reported Wednesday night the crash was before 7 p.m. near mile marker 13 on I-95 in Portsmouth, shutting down the northbound lanes as authorities responded and investigated.
Due to the investigation, stalled traffic heading north was diverted off Exit 3, according to police.
