Ana Moreno Santos and Juan Carlos Menjivar Killed in Granada Hills
Two people were killed in a collision involving a big rig on Sunday morning, August 15th, in Granada Hills.
The collision occurred at about 12:57 a.m. on the southbound 5 freeway.
According to reports, a 2012 silver Lexus driven by 37-year-old Juan Carlos Menjivar slammed into a big rig parked on the shoulder.
Menjivar, along with 33-year-old Ana Moreno Santos, died at the scene. Santos was also a passenger in the Lexus.
Menjivar was reportedly speeding when he lost control after approaching a curve in the roadway. This caused him to rear end the 2007 Dart International truck.
The Lexus caught fire as a result of the crash and both Santos and Menjivar were also decapitated.
Furthermore, the 35-year-old man operating the big rig had no injuries.
Speeding was a contributing factor in 26% of traffic accidents that resulted in death(s) in 2018, according to the NHTSA. The dangers of speeding include:
