Serious Injuries Sustained in E-Bike Collision
An e-bike rider collided with an Amazon delivery van on Wednesday night in San Marcos.
Per reports, a 17-year-old boy was traveling southbound in the bike lane when he collided with the van.
The collision occurred at the intersection of San Elijo and Elfin Forest Roads just after 5:15 p.m.
Due to the impact, the rider was ejected from the bike, causing major injuries.
As a result, paramedics transported the boy to Palomar Hospital where he is in critical condition.
It is suspected that the bicyclist possibly failed to stop at the red light prior to entering the intersection.
An active investigation is underway and any witnesses are advised to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 760-510-5200.
Similar to motorcyclists, bicyclists are just as vulnerable on the roads. According to the NHTSA, 30% of bicycle accident injuries occur when hit by a vehicle. Other drivers are also not always aware of their rights and who has the right of way.
In addition, traffic accidents involving delivery trucks can be tricky when it comes to filing a claim. It is important to know that delivery companies consider their drivers employees, rather than independent contractors. This would mean that they should be fully covered by the company’s insurance policy while on the job.
