2 Killed in Fresno County Collision

A stop-sign violation caused two deaths in Fresno County on Sunday night, August 7th.

The fatal accident took place at the intersection of California and San Diego Avenue.

It was reported that a Nissan Altima failed to stop for the stop sign and crashed with a Caltrans truck as a result. The Nissan was driven by Marquis Pratcher, 25, and the Caltrans truck was operated by Ali Shabazz, 48.

Upon impact, the truck overturned. This occurred at about 11:53 p.m.

Sadly, both drivers died at the scene. There were no other people in the cars at the time.

An active investigation remains underway.

JT Legal Group sends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ali Shabazz and Marquis Pratcher.

Statistics have shown that approximately 70% of motor-vehicle accidents are a result of stop sign violations. These accidents often happen at an angle rather than head on and about one-third result in some sort of injury.

Although stop signs are in place to prevent accidents, unfortunately not everyone adheres. This is why it is essential to always pay attention and avoid any distractions on the road.

If your injuries are caused by the negligence of a third party you may be entitled to compensation. In the event of a death, families may also be entitled to wrongful death benefits.
