Chico Man Killed in Motorcycle Collision

CHP reported a deadly motorcycle accident in Chico on Tuesday night, August 30th.

The crash occurred at 7:38 p.m. on Neal Road near McCann Drive.

The motorcyclist, a 47-year-old man, was traveling north when he crossed over into the southbound lanes.

As a result, he crashed head-on with a BMW SUV.

Both drivers were rushed to Enloe Medical center with major injuries and the rider sadly died at the hospital.

There was also an SUV passenger who suffered minor injuries but was not hospitalized.

An active investigation remains underway.

Head-on collisions are without a doubt the most dangerous types of crashes. They may only account for 2% of accidents, however they make up 10% of all deadly crashes.

The Fatal Analysis Reporting System (FARS) has found that:

  • 75% of head-on crashes happen in rural areas
  • They are most common on two-lane highways
  • Failure in negotiating a curve on the road causes 23% of all fatal head-on collisions
  • 58% of head-on collisions result in a fatality
