Elaine Barraba, 4-Month-Old Infant Killed in Oak Hills, CA

An infant was killed in a collision that occurred Sunday afternoon, August 1st. Heading northbound on the I-15 freeway, a Honda Accord collided with a tractor-trailer causing a rollover.

It happened just minutes before 1 p.m. and left a 4-month-old dead, and two others critically injured.

The Accord had three adults and two children inside when the collision took place. The Accord rolled over multiple times before stopping along the shoulder of the freeway.

Elaine Barraba had major life-threatening injuries which caused her to be rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Although the parents were not injured, a woman and young boy were airlifted to trauma centers as they sustained serious injuries.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured and he remained at the scene to cooperate with CHP officers.

Traffic heading northbound was stopped for about 45 minutes as a result of the incident.

The official cause of the accident remains unknown and investigators are actively seeking answers as to what led to the crash.

Statistics show that rollover accidents account for about one-third of all fatalities in the U.S. In  addition, 30% of vehicle fatalities are rollover crashes. These types of accidents are far more likely to result in a fatality than non-rollover crashes.
