Impaired Driver Arrested Following Fatal Nye County Collision 

The driver of a Volvo has been arrested after driving under the influence in Nye County. 

A total of three people were killed as a result, including two children on Sunday morning on the U.S. 95. 

The collision occurred just before 11:30 a.m. on November 28th.

According to reports, the impaired driver was traveling northbound before veering into the southbound lanes. 

The Volvo then sideswiped a truck that was towing a camper and also hit a GMC Yukon.

No injuries were reported from the truck and Yukon. 

Continuing on, the Volvo then hit the front side of a minivan which resulted in the death of three people who were inside. 

A man, boy, and girl along with a dog were pronounced dead at the scene. 

In addition, a woman and another boy who were traveling in the van were transported to University Medical Center in Las Vegas. 

The woman sustained major injuries and the injuries of the boy were moderate. Both are expected to be OK. 

Following that collision the Volvo also struck a white camper van, causing it to roll. This crash resulted in minor injuries and neither the male or female inside required medical attention. 

The male driver of the Volvo was arrested on suspicion of DUI and taken to a detention center in Nye County. 

Authorities shut down the highway for several hours pending cleanup and investigation. 

In addition, according to NHTSA, more than a quarter (25%) of accident-related deaths are linked to the use of alcohol. With that being said, according to the CDC, there are 30 people that are killed everyday in a car accident as a result of an alcohol-impaired driver. That is equivalent to one death every 50 minutes.
