2 Killed, 7 Injured in Santa Barbara Crash on Highway 101

A car accident left two people dead and several others with multiple injures on Highway 101 near El Capitan State Beach. The Santa Barbara crash happened at about 7:55 a.m. when a Ford Expedition was headed north on Highway 101.

For reasons not yet clear, the Ford spun out of control and drove into southbound traffic lanes. The SUV went from the right-hand lane into the left-hand lane and struck a Ford F-450. Meanwhile, the Expedition also crashed into a Dodge Grand Caravan and a Honda Accord. The SUV rolled onto its right side and continued crossing the lanes.

A Chevy Bolt and a Toyota Tundra veered to the right to avoid the wreck. However, the California Highway Patrol group reported that the Chevy collided with the Expedition and the Toyota was hit with debris.

Two passengers inside the Ford SUV died at the scene. Emergency crew took the driver and two other occupants to a nearby hospital for further treatment. One of the victims suffered from major injuries while the other two sustained moderate injuries. The Dodge driver was also taken to the hospital for treatment of major injuries.

The names of the victims have not been released as the fatal crash is still under investigation.
